A Study on the Relationship of Health Perception, Hardiness, and Self-Efficacy to Health Promoting Behavior of College Students

Abstract

|
This descriptive-correlation study was undertaken in order to determine if there was relationship of Health Perception, Hardiness, and Self-Efficacy to Health Promoting Behavior on 255 students who were in junior college in Wonju. Using Ware¢¥s Health Perception scale, Pollock¢¥s Hardiness scale, Sherer¡¯s Self-Efficacy scale and HPLP(Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile) by Walker et al., subjects were self-reported with questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed by cronbach¢¥s alpha, descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, t-test, analysis of variance, and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS PC+ program.
The results were as follows:
1. The hypothesis that the higher degree of health perception the higher health promoting behavior of college students was supported significantly(r=.2494, p<01).
2. The hypothesis that the higher degree of hardiness the higher health promoting behavior of college students was supported significantly(r=.1935, p<.01).
3. The hypothesis that the higher degree of self-efficacy the higher health promoting behavior of college students was supported significantly(r=.2292, p<.01).
In conclusion, on the basis of the results of this study, to improve health promoting behavior of college students, nursing intervention is needed to increase health perception, hardiness, self-efficacy.
